Mercat Tours had an existing logo when they approached us.
They wanted to upgrade it as they were conscious of the fact
that they were the original walking tours company but now lost
in a sea of copycat tours all using similair tactics.
They also wanted something which would say professional and
established. Particularily on their company stationery as they
were using it to confirm bookings for large parties etc and
wanted it to look more official and tasteful. The nature of
their publicity material and their company correspondance are
quite different but the icon had to work on both equally as
well.
They sponsor the mercat cross in Parlaiment Square and so wanted
to retain that as their symbol. Their tours also start from
there and the cross is featured in them so it is an important
landmark to the company.
We wanted to give it a ye olde look by using lino cut to redraw
the mercat cross and then a comic strip feel by applying a bold
red and yellow which was inspired by the style of Hammer Horror
posters of the sixties. This was then contained on a black rectangle
which would bleed from the top of the page.
